• C-Span's Student Cam

     

    StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation. 


    With cash prizes totaling $100,000, C-SPAN awards prizes to 150 student documentaries, and 53 teacher advisors.

  • In 2015, Fort Payne Middle School had 2 groups to win awards in the Student Cam competition.  The theme was The Three Branches & You.  There were 2280 video submissions from over 5000 students in 45 states. Eighth graders, Allie Stanley and Katherine Thompson, won 2nd place in the High School-Central Division.   Their video was titled, The Tennessee Valley Authority:  Power Play.  Allie and Katherine received $1500.  Mrs. Suzanne Camp, iTech Team sponsor, received $250 for digital video equimpent for her team. 

    Amber Carroll and Taylor Theakston won Honorable Mention for their video titled Saving Innocence.  Amber and Taylor received $250.00

     

    Representatives from C-Span in Washington, D.C. held a recognition ceremony at FPMS to honor these award recipients.  

  • In 2016, C-Span's theme was Road to the White House:  What's the issue YOU most want the presidential candidates to discuss during the 2016 presidential campaign.  There were 2887 video submissions from 6000 students in 45 states.  Fort Payne City Schools had two winning videos.  Allie Stanley won 3rd place in the High School-Central Division for her video titled, Manufacturing:  Made in the USA.  Allie won $750.  Mrs. Suzanne Camp, iTech Team sponsor, was awarded $125 for digital video equipment.  

    Cole Blalock and Austin Evans won Honorable Mention for their video titled, Illegal Immigration:  The Two-Face Problem.  They won $250.00

     

    These students were recognized at a special ceremony held at Fort Payne Middle School.  Representatives from Washington, D.C. were here to present these awards.
